"Hi, everyone, Max here. Rex has already gone upstairs to visit the space where imam Faisal wants to build a Islamic mosque and community center.
Did you know this used to be a structure that housed a Burlington Coat Factory?
There has been a lot of disagreement about putting a mosque here within 2 blocks of Ground Zero.
Isn't it a shame? Don't you wish everyone could get along?"
yes everyone should get along, however, I have to say that there should be another site to place this new mosque. You were just in Hawai'i could you imagine a Japanese temple being placed at Pearl Harbor? I'm just sayin'....
ReplyDeleteThom, have you gone through the Pearl Harbor presentation? It is open and fair and sensitive to the feelings of the Japanese. I was surprised and heartened...
ReplyDeleteAgreed Mary. However the exhibit is very much different than a house of worship. In mt view
ReplyDeleteAnd what I mean by that is the Muslim religion fanatics did real harm on our soil as did the Japanese fanatics during WWII. I'm not blaming them all but just feel out of respect for those that lost their lives to put it someplace else. Not as close. It'd an emotional site and they should show respect for those that lost their lives and their families an all Americans. The Pearl Harbor Memorial is an info center of what happened that fateful day. Not some place for those of a religion to go to practice their faith. It's a real emotional issue I know and I can see not sides and I choose the side of respect.
ReplyDeleteBut Thom, Should Catholics not pray at Ground Zero? And Jews not pray, and other Christians not pray there. I said a prayer at the pearl Harbor meorial for both the Americans and the Japanese that died. And also how far away should we put the mosque? 5 blocks? 7 blocks? The community that wants to build that mosque is 10 blocks from there right now. And there are another 4 mosques in that area right now...
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying that they shouldn't be allowed to pray Mary by all means. I don't know how far away it should be. All I know is that where they want to build it is way to close. Just off the top of my head I would say keep it at least a mile away. I don't know why I chose that but that seems fair. Yes there is another mosque there now but it existed prior to 9/11. This is something new. It just seems to me that it would be a slap in the face to build a new one so close. And did you hear about the imam proposing this? If this is true he has no business building this mosque at all. I'm not trying to but the blame on all Muslims. We are a free country and everyone has rights here. But I keep going back to respect what happened that fateful day. It was one of, if not the worst, day for murder and mayhem on our soil.
